- Dave Haynie told me that the speed increase would be about 20%. When
- using SysInfo as an indicator of processor speed, tests I made indicated
- that the A3000UX I have at home, equipped with a 25 MHz 68030 and static
- column RAMs only, performs at "103%" the speed of the A3000 comparison
- system. Whereas the A3000 I have at the office, which is equipped with the
- same type of CPU and page mode RAM, only performs at "83%".

- I can confirm this. But take care, some computer dealers mixed chip
- types (at least mine did). As far as I can tell, the operating system
- does not test if all the RAM chips are of static column type. What it
- does is turn on static column mode and check if memory stops working.
- Thus, it is possible to put static column ZIPs into some of the sockets
- and fit the rest with page mode ZIPs. The operating system won't notice
- and run the whole show on static column mode. Things will appear to work
- fine, the customer won't notice immediately and the dealer will have
- saved a few bucks. This is bound to cause trouble, though.
